Over 1,600 Police Officers  Deploy to Guard Workers’ Protest at KPU

Inp.polri.go.idJakarta. Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police deployed approximately 1,676 officers to secure a demonstration by the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) at the General Election Commission (KPU) office on Sunday (25/8/2024).

“The security for the KSPI protest, which started at 9 am, involves 1,676 officers,” said Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Ade Ary Syam Indradi. 

The forces include officers from the Metro jaya Police, Central Jakarta Sub-regional Police, the military, the Jakarta administration, and other related agencies.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Senior Superintendent Susatyo Purnomo Condro said that traffic management around vital objects will be adjusted based on real-time developments.

“All security personnel are instructed to act persuasively, avoid provocation, and prioritize negotiation and humane service,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com. 

He emphasized that no firearms will be carried and urged protesters to conduct their demonstration peacefully.

KSPI President Said Iqbal announced further demonstrations from 25 to 27 August 2024, targeting the KPU, the House of Representatives (DPR), and local administration offices, demanding the KPU issue new regulations on local elections.
