Indonesians in Japan Urged to Prepare for Typhoon Shanshan

Inp.polri.go.idTokyo. Indonesians in Japan are advised to be vigilant as Typhoon Shanshan is expected to hit western and eastern Japan on 27 and 28 August 2024.

The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tokyo announced on Sunday (25/8/2024) that the typhoon will bring strong winds and heavy rain.

Indonesians are urged to monitor updates from the Japanese government, reconsider travel plans, and prepare sufficient supplies.

“Identify safe areas or shelters and stay in contact with family and the Indonesian community,” the embassy said in a statement, as quoted by antaranews.com..

In emergencies, Indonesians can contact local authorities or the emergency protection numbers: +81 80 3506 8612 and +81 80 4940 7419 for the KBRI Tokyo area, and +81 80 3113 1003 for the Indonesian Consulate General Office ( KJR) inI Osaka area.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Typhoon Shanshan is moving north over the waters near the Ogasawara Islands. Wind speeds could reach 120 knots (60 m/s), potentially causing damage to power lines, trees, streetlights, wooden houses, and altering building structures.
