Inp.polri.go.id – Kediri. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology has officially named Puhsarang Church in Kediri, East Java, as a national cultural heritage site.
Eko Priatno, the Head of the History and Archaeology Division at Kediri’s Tourism and Culture Office, explained on Sunday (25/8/2024) that the designation process began in 2019.
Initially, three sites were considered: Puhsarang Church, the Kelud Volcano Mitigation Tunnel, and the Totok Kerot Site. Puhsarang Church was chosen for its unique structure, according to antaranews.com.
Ninie Susanti Tedjowasono, the Chair of the Indonesian Epigraphy Experts Association, highlighted the church’s historical significance and architectural blend of Dutch and Javanese styles. She also hopes other sites, like the Paradah Inscription, will be recognized as national cultural heritage.
Imam Mubarok, the Chairman of Kediri’s Cultural Council, welcomed the designation but stressed the need for a new Cultural Heritage Expert Team in Kediri to oversee future preservation efforts.
