BMKG Reports No Damage After 5.2-Magnitude Earthquake in Bengkulu

Inp.polri.go.idBengkulu.  The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) Kepahiang Station reported no damage following the 5.2-magnitude earthquake in Bengkulu on Sunday (25/6/2024)..

BMKG Kepahiang’s Geophysics and Meteorology Observer, Sabar Ardiansyah, said that the quake occurred at 11:54 pm, centered in Seluma Regency, at coordinates 4.43°S latitude and 102.18°E longitude, about 59 kilometers southwest of Seluma at a depth of 21 kilometers.

“The magnitude of the earthquake was moderate, and no significant aftershocks are expected. As of now, there are no reports of damage,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The tremor was felt in Seluma Regency, Kaur Regency, and Bengkulu City. BMKG urged the public to rely on official information and avoid unverified rumors.

From January to 16 August 2024, Bengkulu experienced 746 earthquakes of varying magnitudes. The strongest quake had a magnitude of 6.3, while the smallest was 1.9. Despite frequent tremors, there has been no significant infrastructure damage
