Inp.polri.go.id – Sidoarjo.The Sidoarjo Sub-regional Police Narcotics Unit intercepted 30 kilograms of methamphetamine suspected to be part of an international drug network.
East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Imam Sugianto confirmed on Friday (16/8/2024) that one suspect, identified as MI, alias Iyek, was arrested while driving a pickup truck carrying the drugs, according to antaranews.com.
The investigation stemmed from a previous case involving a couple arrested in April 2024, who disclosed the name of a major drug dealer frequently smuggling meth from China into Indonesia.
Following a month-long investigation, MI was arrested on 22 July 2024, while transporting the drugs, concealed in wooden crates and packaged in Chinese tea bags.
The suspect faces life imprisonment or the death penalty under Indonesia’s Narcotics Law. Police vow to continue their crackdown on drug trafficking with firm legal action.
