Inp.polri.go.id – Jambi. The Jambi Regional Police have uncovered an international drug trafficking operation, seizing 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and arresting two suspects.
Superintendent Ernesto Seiser, the Jambi Police Director of the Narcotics Investigation Unit, said on Friday (16/8/2024) that the suspects, identified as MI (24), a university student from Aceh, and AJ (28), a businessman, were caught while transporting the drugs from Jambi to Palembang, South Sumatra, using a minibus in Sarolangun.
It was their second attempt, following a successful delivery of 5 kilograms of methamphetamine to Palembang in December 2023, for which they were paid Rp 100 million, according to antaranews.com.
MI is believed to have direct connections with international sources, while AJ assisted in delivering the drugs to Palembang. The suspects face severe penalties, including up to 20 years imprisonment, life, or even the death penalty under Indonesia’s drug trafficking laws.
The seized drugs, valued at approximately Rp 6 billion, could have endangered over 22,000 lives had they reached the public.
