inp.polri.go.id – The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated its condolences to Afghanistan after it was rocked by a powerful earthquake that killed at least 1,000 people, Thursday (23/06/22).
“The Indonesian government and its citizens express their deep condolences after an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 that rocked districts in two provinces of Afghanistan on June 22, 2022,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement on Twitter.
“Our deepest condolences and sympathies to the victims of the tragedy and their beloved families and friends,” continued the Indonesian Ministry.
An earthquake hit Afghanistan on Wednesday (22/06/22) morning local time. Reuters reported the magnitude of the quake was 6.1 but other sources said it was 5.9.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) noted the quake was about 44 kilometers from Khorst, a town near the Pakistan border, and had a depth of 51 km.
As a result of this disaster, at least 1,000 people were dead.
The Head of the Information and Culture Department of Taliban, Mohammad Amin Huzaifa, said the number of victims would likely continue to rise.
