inp.polri.go.id –Â The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the National Police (Polri) deployed a Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) team to investigate the bus accident on the Surabaya-Mojokerto toll road. The accident that occurred on Monday, 17 May, caused 14 passengers died.
“Korlantas Polri has sent a TAA team to back up the East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) to investigate the case,” explained the Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karo Penmas) of Polri’s Public Relations Division (Divisi Humas), Brigadier General Dr. Ahmad Ramadhan, S.H., M.H., M.Sc., Tuesday (17/5/22).
He also said that based on the initial investigation, the team found no evidence that the bus was overloaded because it only carried 34 people out of a capacity of 37 passengers.
However, the substitute bus driver, with the initials AF, was indicated to have used methamphetamine from a urine test. The police have also taken AF blood samples to be taken to the Forensic Laboratory (Labfor).
“The bus had only traveled 17 km from the rest area when the accident happened. And also, we found that AF does not have a driver’s license, so we will look for his status whether he is a backup driver or assistant driver,” explained Karo Penmas Polri.
It was previously reported that a bus was having an accident while crossing KM 712+400 line A of the Surabaya-Mojokerto toll road on Monday, May 16, 2022 this morning at around 06.15 WIB. The total number of victims who died has reached 14 people.
Head of Patrols of the Traffic Directorate of Polda Jatim, AKBP Dwi Sumrahadi said the accident began when the bus departed from Yogyakarta to Surabaya at medium speed on the slow lane.
Then, when the bus arrived at KM 712+400 line A of the Surabaya-Mojokerto toll road, the vehicle swerved to the left and hit the VMS pole on the side of the toll road shoulder. The bus then overturned. It is believed that the accident happened because the driver was fell asleep.
