inp.polri.go.id – The victory of Keanu Subba against James Yang, a pupil of prominent MMA fighter, Demetrious Johnson, set the stage for ONE 156’s opener.
The match which took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last Friday, Keanu Subba from Malaysia won through the unanimous decision after dominating the opponent for three full rounds. Tuesday, (26/4/22).
This is considered a huge upset considering James Yang is being touted as the star of the future, especially after winning a convincing victory in his debut match in ONE Championship.
However, James Yang had to admit that Keanu is the better fighter. Through an elite game of grappling, the younger brother of Gianni Subba managed to drag Yang onto the canvas and appear dominant in that area.
At the beginning of the round, Yang dominated Keanu with his agile striking ability. However, the representative athlete of Soma Fight Club Bali managed to survive and pushed his rival into the Circle wall.
From a difficult position, Subba tried to bring down the American athlete. Instead, Subba was hit with a hard elbow that made him rocked.
Although he received a hard blow, Subba keeps trying his best, and managed to hug Yang and drop him onto the canvas. Subba again dominated the athlete of the AMC Pankration with a rain of punches and tried to submit Yang in the end of the first round.
In the second round, Subba was fully in control of the game with a combination of bodylocks and finishing attempts from a dominant position. The “Mighty Mouse” protégé couldn’t do much on the canvas until the end of the closing bell for the second round.
In the third round, Yang tried his best and started striking again. However, Yang’s striking efforts were again blocked by Subba who then dropped him again to the canvas.
As before, Subba again grabbed Yang’s back and tried to submit him with the rear naked-choke lock. However, Subba’s attempt was again thwarted by the sound of the closing bell.
For his dominant performance, the three judges agreed to give Keanu Subba an absolute victory. The victory was also the first after two consecutive defeats experienced by the Malaysian athlete, as well as raising his professional achievement to 8-5.
