inp.polri.go.id – Police officers from the Probolinggo District Police (Polres) in East Java arrested two motorcycle theft perpetrators named Roni (28) and Sahid (33), Sunday (17/4/2022). Sahid had to be shot by the police for trying to resist when he was arrested.
The Probolinggo Police Chief (Kapolres) AKBP Teuku Arsya Gaddafi said the arrests of the two perpetrators began when the two of them began their act at the house of Niso (34), a resident of Tiris District, Probolinggo Regency on Sunday morning at around 04.00 WIB.
The victim, who had just had sahur, heard an unusual sound in front of his house. Then, he went to check out of the house and found that the two perpetrators had his motorbike.
“Seeing this, the victim screamed for help. The screams made people get out of their homes and immediately pursued the two perpetrators,” Arsya told Kompas.com, Sunday.
One of the perpetrators named Roni was successfully arrested by residents with the assistance of members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tiris Police who were patrolling the scene. Furthermore, the officers together with the residents tried to chase after Sahid who fled and resisted the officers when he was about to be arrested.
“The officer gave a warning shot, but the perpetrator ignored it, so we took decisive action to hit the calf of the perpetrator’s leg, causing him to fall on the ground,” explained Arsya.
Currently, the perpetrator is undergoing treatment at the hospital and the investigation process continues to reveal the network of other perpetrators.
