inp.polri.go.id – Bengkulu. The Director of Traffic (Dirlantas) of the Bengkulu Regional Police (Polda Bengkulu), Commissioner Sumardji, found several damaged bridges in Bengkulu Province. He recommended that the government move quickly to repair the damage ahead of the Eid homecoming.
The police identified that many damaged and not-ready-to-use bridges were found on the road from Bengkulu City to Mukomuko Regency.
“We have coordinated this case with the Head of Transportation and the existing stakeholders, namely the Road Management Center. We have also checked two bridges which are categorized as severely damaged. This needs to be taken into account, because if left unchecked, the bridge will collapse,” said Dirlantas Polda Bengkul, Commissioner Sumardji in a release received by Kompas.com, Saturday (16/4/2022).
The two damaged bridges are located in Batik Nau Village and Ketahun District, North Bengkulu Regency.
According to him, the bridge can be categorized as a damaged bridge, so it is not recommended for vehicles to pass it. Especially in homecoming period, where the mobility of vehicles usually increases unlike any other days. To prevent further damage to the bridge, the police will close the road towards the bridge.
“We will prioritize vehicles with a tonnage of 10 tons and below that may pass. Those who are above 10 tons will be diverted to several other road sections that are traversed,” he added.
He also explained that for the findings of the damaged bridge, his party issued a recommendation for immediate repairs.
“In accordance with the recommendations, the closure and construction of the damaged bridge will be carried out immediately, especially the bridge in Batik Nau,” he said. “The public must know that there may be closures towards the bridge, and we will prioritize alternative roads that can be taken by travelers back and forth,” he added.
