inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The story of the National Police Chief (Kapolri) General Drs. Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s boldness in presenting himself amid the demonstration, during the Student demonstration, Monday, April 11, 2022, is truly commendable.
Perhaps it is almost unheard of for a Four-Star General to directly lead the security of a demonstration, to ensure the safety of the situation. It did not stop there, Kapolri also escorted several student representatives to meet with the DPR leadership.
Many appreciations came after the brave action of Kapolri. Even the students also acknowledged that the Four-Star General’s sympathetic gesture contributed to making the demonstration run well.
Although at the end of the demonstration there was a riot, which was done by the infiltrators, the intruders who took advantage of the student demonstration.
According to media observer, Rahmat Edi Irawan, the steps taken by Kapolri to be in the midst of a mass demonstration, actually shows that the space for dialogue must remain open, as a way to avoid violence and anarchy when large demonstrations occur.
“Although it is not easy, the steps of taking a humanist approach, who avoids violence and prioritizes dialogue, have proven to be successful. Kudos to Kapolri and the ranks of the Indonesian National Police, who managed to well guard the big demonstration on April 11,” explained the Doctor of Communications at Binus University, Jakarta.
