Komnas HAM Stated no Violations Were Done in Doctor Sunardi Shooting

inp.polri.go.id  –  Komnas HAM stated that there were no human rights violations in the shooting of Doctor Sunardi by Special Detachment (Densus) 88. The statement is based on the results of investigations over the past few weeks.

Commissioner for Monitoring & Investigation of Komnas HAM, Choirul Anam, said that the shooting of Dr. Sunardi was carried out with careful consideration and the principle of prudence. However, this conclusion could change if there is new evidence.

“It is in accordance with the procedure and there are no human rights violations. As far as we investigated, we did not find any human rights violations. Unless there is new evidence, we will conduct another inspection,” Anam explained at a press conference regarding the results of Komnas HAM’s investigation into the death of Doctor Sunardi on Monday (11/1). 4/2022).

Anam stated that the attempt to arrest Sunardi had met all the legal requirements. He found that Densus 88 had shown an arrest warrant to Sunardi. Densus 88 officers also wore vests that read ‘Police’. But Sunardi still ran away.

“Doctor Sunardi ran away and a chase ensued, even though the police had shown an arrest warrant. While crossing the bridge, Sunardi’s car hit a motorbike. The police asked Sunardi to stop because he hit another driver, and then the shooting happened,” said Anam.

Anam said there were nine shots fired by Densus 88 officers in the incident. It was recorded that four shots were warnings and five shots were aimed at Sunardi. But he guaranteed the shooting was carried out properly.

“The arrest process complies with the principles of necessity and caution. Also, consider the precautionary aspect because there are people around the incident,” said Anam.
