National Police’s Directorate of Water Police and its Coordinator of The Security Maintenance Agency confiscated as many as 122,100 lobster seeds (fry) at Muara Baru Port, North Jakarta, which was about to be smuggled into Singapore. The four suspected lobster seed smugglers arrested each had the initials IS, MH, BPS, and LS.
National Police’s Directorate of Water Police and its Coordinator of The Security Maintenance Agency, Brigadier General Pol. M. Yassin Kosasih, said the disclosure began with information from the public about the delivery of lobster seeds through Muara Baru Port on Sunday (09/12/2021).
“Based on this information, at around 01:30 PM, the Joint Team took action against one perpetrator with the initials IS who was driving a car carrying four coloured suitcases wrapped in sacks of suspected Lobster Bening Seeds,” said Directorate of Water Police at the base, Friday (09/24/2021).
He explained that after arresting IS in charge of sending lobster seeds to Muara Baru Port, the Joint Team of the Sub-Directorate of Law Enforcement and the Water Intelligence Sub-Directorate carried out development and succeeded in securing MH. The suspect MH is the speed boat captain that will take the Lobster Seeds from Muara Baru Harbor to Batam. After arriving in Batam, the lobster seeds are then sent to Singapore by sea.
“Furthermore, the suspect and evidence were secured to the base for further processing,” continued the Directorate of Water Police.
Based on their statement, the lobster seeds about to be smuggled belonged to the BPS suspect. Then the Joint Team tracked the whereabouts of BPS and was successfully secured on Monday (09/13/2021) in the Sentul area, West Java.
“Based on the facts of the examination of MH, BPS, it is known that there were other actors involved, namely the LS which regulates or conditions the activity of sending lobster seeds at Muara Baru Port,” said Directorate of Water Police.
According to the Directorate of Water Police, the apparent lobster seeds were ordered through an intermediary as a collector from fishers in the South Coast of Garut, Pelabuhan Ratu, Pacitan, Jember and Banyuwangi. As for the disclosure, the National Police’s Directorate of Water Police and its Coordinator of The Security Maintenance Agency managed to save potential state losses of up to IDR 33.6 billion.
Furthermore, on Monday (09/20/2021), the Lobster seeds were released into the waters of the Thousand Islands.
“On Monday at 10.00 AM, we will release them, because if we don’t, we will immediately release them, worried that many people will die. Nevertheless, moreover, we will leave the evidence,” he concluded.
The four suspects were charged with Article 92 in conjunction with Article 26 paragraph (1) of Indonesian Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation and Article 88 of Indonesian Law Number 31 of 2004 concerning Fisheries in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code, with the threat of 8 years imprisonment.
