South Sumatra Regional Police Thwarted Distribution of Thousands of Illegal Cosmetics

Subdirectorate 1 of Industry, Trade, and Investment of the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of South Sumatra Regional Police thwarted distributions of thousands of illegal cosmetics without distribution permits. Police also arrested the husband and wife, who took the role of the dealer.

Previously, Police conducted undercover buying with the perpetrator, initialled LA (27) and her husband SP (31), residents of Sriwijaya Raya, Karya Jaya subdistrict, Kertapati district, Palembang. Both are arrested at Balayudha street, Ario Kemuning subdistrict, Kemuning district, Palembang. Police also seized 2,287 pots of whitening face masks, 35 pcs of green apple comedo masks, 68 pcs of taro comedo masks, 72 pcs of strawberry comedo masks, and 142 pcs of lemon comedo masks.

“We conducted undercover buy by online ordering through Facebook, because the perpetrator offered the cosmetics on social media”, Director of the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of South Sumatra Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Barly Ramadhany.

Director of Special Criminal Investigation of South Sumatra Regional Police explained that, after the undercover buy, Police moved to the perpetrators’ house and seized other evidence. “When conducting undercover buy, this husband and wife only give the goods stated in the order. We then went to their house and found other evidence. They have been distributed the illegal cosmetics for a year”, he said.

Both are subjected to Article 196 in relation to Article 98 paragraph 2 and 3 and/or Article 197 in relation to Article 106 paragraph 1 of Law No. 36 of 2009 about Health which stated about Businessmen Behaviours Offences, which prohibit businessmen from producing and/or trade goods and/or services.

“In which not according to the required standards and law regulations which not in accordance with the condition, guarantees, exceptions, or efficacy as stated in the label, etiquette or statements of the good and/or service, as mentioned in Article 62 paragraph 1 in relation to Article 8 paragraph 1 letter a and/or letter d of the Law No. 8 of 1999 about Consumer’s Protection”, he concluded.
