House of Representative Supports the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Police to Squeeze Illegal Gold Mining in North Sulawesi

inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Member of House of Representative’s Commission VI Amin AK supports the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Headquarter in controlling Illegal Gold Mining Activities (PETI). The illegal activity is in PT. Bulawan Daya Lestari (BDL), Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi (North Sulawesi).

I support that move. Rules must be enforced to all parties, fairly and indiscriminately, said a member of Commission VI of the House of Representative in a written statement, Wednesday (09/22/2021).

Members of Commission VI of the House of Representatives requested that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the National Police continue to monitor illegal mining in the field. In addition, in using forest areas for mining or plantation purposes, business actors must have a Borrow-to-Use Forest Area Permit (IPPKH).

The use of forest areas without a permit is illegal and can be dealt with following the provisions of the law, Law No. 41 of 1999 concerning Forestry. Currently, there are about 17 million hectares of illegal plantations and mines in forest areas.

“The existence of illegal mines and plantations is detrimental to the state economically, environmentally and socially. Therefore, the state has acted appropriately in dealing with Illegal Gold Mining Activities,” he said.

Members of Commission VI of the House of Representatives said that interested parties should re-administer Borrow-to-Use Forest Area Permit. So that the economic, environmental, and social consequences can be accounted for.

“Ministry of Environment and Forestry must continue to coordinate with the Criminal Investigation Police of the National Police to secure forest areas so that they are not damaged, which will harm environmental damage and increase greenhouse gases,” said a member of Commission VI of the House of Representative.

Previously, the Director-General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management (PKTL) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Dr. Ir. Ruandha Agung Sugardiman, M.Sc., confirmed the inspection carried out by the Central Joint Team on September 11, 2021. He revealed that after there were complaints and protests from residents who said there was still mining activity in the area, he then asked the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s Director General of Law Enforcement’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry. to carry out inspections in the field to ensure the truth.

“We have received several reports from the public. After that, we have conveyed this to the Director-General of Law Enforcement to be able to inspect in the field whether it is true that reports from the public are activities in the field that are still being carried out,” said the Director-General of Planning and Environmental Management’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

“The team from the Directorate General of Law and Human Rights in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Unit at the National Police Headquarter conducts field inspections, and those who have installed the police line are given a sign that they are prohibited from carrying out activities before the licensing process that we are carrying out is completed first,” he continued.
