The determination of the suspect was carried out in a case title after collecting some evidence and examining witnesses.
“We examined 53 witnesses, including the reporting witness, then collected several pieces of evidence, the witness statements were complete,” he said.
So far, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has handed over 38 bodies that have been identified to the families. However, police had difficulty identifying due to the fire victims’ bodies’ condition, which was challenging to identify.
The police previously stated an alleged criminal act behind the fire at the Class I prison in Tangerang. Several witnesses were examined until the case was brought to the investigation stage.
The head of Tangerang Class I prison, Victor Teguh Prihartono, was also questioned. A few days later, Victor was deactivated from his position as head of the prison for the police investigation.
The relevant articles of the Criminal Code in the Tangerang prison fire are Article 187 of the Criminal Code regarding the element of intent, Article 188 of the Criminal Code regarding alleged negligence and Article 359 of the Criminal Code regarding alleged negligence that resulted in fatalities.
