Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-Terror of Indonesian National Police again arrested the suspected terrorist who was the Syuro Council (Advisor) of Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) Abu Rusydan or what is called Thoriquddin in Babelan, Bekasi, last Friday (10/9). Densus had previously arrested Abu Rusydan in 2004.
The Head of the General Information of the Indonesian National Police Public Relations Division, Police Grand Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan, explained why Densus arrested Abu Rusydan for the second time. Ramadhan said Abu Rusydan had become an important figure in JI’s journey from time to time.
“AR has been revealed to be an important node in JI’s journey from time to time,” he explained, Friday (17/9/2021).
The Head of the General Information also described Abu Rusydan as a cunning figure. According to him, Abu Rusydan did not go directly into the JI organization after being acquitted not to be caught by the authorities.
“Of course, AR’s long record of involvement in JI shows his cunning. That he deliberately did not become part of JI’s organizational structure. Of course, this was done to avoid being sniffed by the apparatus,” he said.
Based on the records of Densus 88, Abu Rusydan is a senior figure within JI. Abu Rusydan was one of the formulators of the General Guidelines for the Jamaah Islamiyah Movement (PUPJI) in 1998, which later became the leading spirit of JI’s amaliyah spirit and practice.
