The joint team of the Sub Directorate of Jatanras Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Riau Regional Police and the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Rokan Hulu Resort Police succeeded in arresting 4 gangs of robbers of ATMs located on Diponegoro Simpang Kumu, Rambah Hilir, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau, last Tuesday (31/8/2021) which caused losses to the Bank. BRI up to IDR 775 million. The four perpetrators arrested by the joint team had the initials MA alias BB (35), RT alias RS (39) and HB alias BL (42), and BM alias BY (29).

Grand Commissioner Sunarto during a press conference accompanied by the Director of Criminal Investigation, Pol. Grand Commissioner Teddy Ristiawan and the Rohul Police Chief, Pol. Grand Commissioner Eko Wimpiyanto, Monday (09/13/2021) afternoon.
The Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police explained that from the proceeds of robbing the ATM belonging to Bank BRI, the gang took away money worth Rp. 755 million.
From the results of the investigation and processing of the crime scene as well as CCTV footage, it was known and recognized that one of the perpetrators had the initials RS and was identified as being in the Lubuk Basung area, Agam, West Sumatra. Then a joint team chased the perpetrator and on Sunday (09/06/2021) he was arrested at one of his family’s houses. The perpetrator of this hospital is known to be the initiator as well as the executor of the robbery’s action, explained the Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police.
From the perpetrators of the hospital, who turned out to be guards for PT. SSI’s ATM technicians who had been dismissed last June, the joint team then carried out development and pursuits until they finally managed to apprehend 3 other perpetrators in different locations, BM was arrested in Jakarta, MA who claimed to be the manager/leader. BRI was arrested in Surabaya and HB was arrested in Banyuwangi, East Java.
The Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police explained that in carrying out their actions the perpetrators used the mode by tricking Daniel Sapta, who is an ATM technician. One of the perpetrators came to Danil Sapta’s house claiming to be an envoy from Bank BRI. The perpetrator said that the leadership of Bank BRI wanted to meet. Hearing this, Daniel agreed to meet at a bank in Pasir Putih, after he repaired the damage to an ATM that was having trouble.
After Daniel finished repairing the ATM, the perpetrator called Daniel to get into the car immediately, arguing that the leadership of the BRI bank had been waiting for him.
“When the victim arrived near the car, the perpetrator MA alias BB immediately pointed a bayonet knife into the victim’s stomach while saying follow our wishes, you are safe”. The perpetrator RT alias RS then covered Daniel’s mouth using white duct tape and tied the victim’s hands using a nylon rope. Then the victim was taken to a BRI ATM located on Diponegoro avenue, ” explained the Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police.
Arriving at the location of the BRI ATM, the perpetrators saw that the situation was still crowded, so the perpetrators continued their journey and then returned to the ATM location to ensure that the situation was safe. When the BRI ATM situation is safe, the perpetrator asks the victim to unlock the ATM.
“Once the ATM was opened, the perpetrator then took the cassette where the money was stored in the BRI ATM and put it in the white Xenia car numbered G 8510 HM and fled towards West Sumatra. Meanwhile, Danil Sapta was sent down on the Batang Lubuh bridge, Rambah Rohul sub-district, “explained the Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police.
The perpetrators shared the proceeds of the robbery, where the perpetrators of the hospital got a share of IDR 180 million, HB got IDR 180 million and MA got IDR 180 million, and BM got IDR 130 million.
“For the article that was applied, the 4 perpetrators were charged with Article 365 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 9 years in prison,” explained the Head of Public Relations of the Riau Regional Police.
