Noken Community Development Unit, A Friend for the Farmers who Helped the Seed for the Tolikara Farming Group
Papua – The “Police, The Farm’s Friend” programme is oriented to the increase of harvesting quantities of the farming groups in Papua. One of the events is the one conducted by Police Inspector 1st Class Widada, Police Brigadier Petrus Hamokwarong, Police Brigadier 1st Class Yordan P Bonay, Police Chief Brigadier Lamaludu, Police Chief Brigadier Rambo D Womsiwor, Police Brigadier 1st Class Pilipus Samtai, and Police Brigadier 2nd Class Derek Letlora, who visited the garden of Mr Tigen Wakur in Alobaga village of Geya district.
The visit was conducted on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 09.00. The Community Development Task Force arrived at the location and helped the farmers in maintaining palawija (dry season crops) and vegetables cultivated by the farmers.
The visit also gave understanding to the farmers about the plant cultivation using the intercropping method, in which the farmer could utilise the land by planting more than one commodity plant in one location in the same plating season, such as planting mustard green between the corns.
The benefit of the intercropping system is that farmers could plant vegetables as the interlude commodity before the corn’s harvest as the staples so that it could give farmers more profit.
The visit was concluded by giving basic necessities packages and vegetable seeds for the planting preparation. This kind of visit is hoped to make the farmer groups be a friend of the Indonesian National Police in keeping community security and order to be conducive, and the knowledge on intercropping, which is utilising land by planting more than one commodity in one planting season, could benefit the farming group.
