Jayapura. Papuan Regional Police Chief, Pol. Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri emphasized that traffic engineering through the odd-even system was a solution to congestion during the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) Papua.
“In Papua today, 428 buses from the Ministry of Transportation have arrived in 4 PON clusters, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Timika, and Merauke. Just imagine when the buses are on the highway, there will be traffic jams,” explained Pol. Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri, Wednesday (09/01/21).
The Papuan Regional police chief said that prior to the arrival of the buses, the police had carried out odd-even trials to break down congestion.
“When the odd-even test was carried out, the community felt disturbed. And now there are 428 buses, and imagine if these buses were on the highway, wouldn’t there be traffic jams. So the odd-even system was carried out,” explained the Indonesian Military Academy graduate in 1990.
The Two-Star General appealed to the public to understand and follow the odd-even system for the smooth running of National Sports Week. Mainly escorting athletes to the venue of the competition.
