inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is collaborating with the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to eradicate illegal online loans (Pinjol), which have been widely operating recently.
Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Wimboh Santoso, said that this collaboration was carried out so that the handling of illegal online loans could be carried out effectively, structured and optimally.
This collaboration is carried out because the pinjol operation amid a pandemic is quite widespread and is detrimental to the community. They take advantage of the large number of people affected by layoffs to seek profit.
People who don’t have jobs use online loan services to get funds easily and quickly. However, several illegal fintech are not registered with the OJK that carry out transactions that violate the law.
“Illegal online lenders use this condition (the COVID-19 pandemic) to offer online loans with various platforms to people who have deficient levels of financial literacy,” said Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friday (20/08/2021).
Meanwhile, the Chief of Indonesian National Police, Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo appreciated the collaboration initiated by the OJK. The Chief of Indonesian National Police said that the Indonesian National Police had been actively enforcing the law against illegal loans before the cooperation.
According to his record, the prosecution has been carried out on 14 cases of illegal online loans throughout 2018-2021.
“With the following various modes of providing offers to prospective customers without having to meet or face to face, there are conditions for customers to follow the policies and conditions where the lender can open the contact data on the customer’s cellphone.” said the Chief of Indonesian National Police.
