inp.polri.go.id – Surabaya. Head of the Public Affairs Division of Indonesia National Police, Inspector General Pol. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono, said currently Indonesia National Police is focusing on eradicating the practice of thuggery in society.
“So yesterday the President was in Tanjung Priok and then had a chance to hold a dialogue there, and it turns out that the container drivers expressed their concern,” Head of the Public Affairs Division of the Indonesia National Police explained while t the East Java Regional Police, Friday (06/11/2021).
The complaint from the container drivers is about illegal fees. The Head of the Public Affairs Division of the Indonesia National Police continued, the President immediately contacted the Chief of Indonesia National Police to respond to the complaint.
“The Assistance Operation of the Chief of Indonesia National Police then instructed, directed to all police member throughout Indonesia to carry out operations against thuggery,” he explained.
He also said the Metro Jaya Regional Police had arrested 49 people suspected in illegal fee practice and extortion in the Tanjung Priok area.
The modus operandi of the thugs was to ask the driver for a tip of IDR 10 thousand to IDR 20 thousand.
“This is the main task of the Indonesia National Police, we have also sent letters to the all Regional Police, the East Java Regional Police will also receive the letter and act immediately,” he explained.
In addition, Head of the Public Affairs Division of the Indonesia National Police also advised the police to take firm action against the practice of thuggery, so it will stop. It is hoped that the Regional Police can play a role in eradicating thuggery because it is possible that almost all regions in Indonesia also have thuggery practices.
“Not only the port, but in other places where the illegal fee practice or extortion does occur, we will take action,” the Head of the Public Affairs Division of the Indonesia National Police said.
The police will also take preventive actions by cooperating with Village Leadership Non-Commisioned Officer (Babinsa) and police officer working at village level (Babinkabtimas). And also mobilizing the Resort Police and Sector Police to provide education, but if education cannot be carried out, there will still be action against people who practice thuggery
