Directorate of Water and Air Police of Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police Captured a High-Speed Smuggler Boat in Bangka Belitung Waters

inp.polri.go.id – Pangkal Pinang. Directorate of Water and Air Police (Ditpolairud) of Bangka Belitung (Babel) Islands Regional Police captured a high-speed boat in Babel. This is the third time Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police captured the high-speed “ghost” boat.

However, out of three ghost boats, only one is not empty loaded. The load were 12,000 bottles of well-known illegal brands of foreign alcoholic drinks. Two other ghost boats were empty loaded.

Chief of PR and Press Division of Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Maladi explained that the third ghost boat captured by the Directorate of Water and Air Police of Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police was located on the Babel and South Sumatra waters, where it is prone to smuggling activities, on Monday (07/06/2021).

Previously, the first ghost boat capture was conducted by the Directorate of Water and Air Police of Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police, using the helicopter under the operation control of National Police, on February 4, 2020, on South Sumatra waters.

The capture was conducted after the Directorate of Water and Air Police of Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police gather public information on ghost boat crossing the Western Bangka sea. Afterwards, the team cut off the boat’s path using a helicopter.

After Police Inspector 1st Class Asmadi shot the boat’s engine, the ghost boat was controlled by the police and brought to Sadai harbour, South Bangka.

After dismantling, officers found IDR 8 billion worth of well-known illegal brands of foreign alcoholic drinks.

On August 26, 2020, another ghost boat was captured without any load. The boat was seized in broken condition after clashed with Patrol Ship KP 2005 of Directorate of Water and Air Police of Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police.

The last one happened on June 5, 2021, when a ghost boat was captured after chased by a helicopter from Central Bangka waters. The boat’s helmsman ran away after deliberately crashed the boat to the mangrove forest of Tanjung Jati, Okan Komering Ilir regency, South Sumatra province.
