Quells Armed Criminal Group in Papua, Indonesian National Police Involves These Three Institutions

inp.polri.go.id. – Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police involved several institutions in combating the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua after a government decision to label the organization as a terrorist. A number of these institutions include the Anti-Terror Special Detachment (Densus) 88, the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).

Chief of Indonesian National Police Intelligence and Security Agency (Kabaintelkam), Pol. General Commissioner Paulus Waterpauw said the Armed Criminal Group in Papua was categorized as a terror group because they frequently attacked civilians, damaged public facilities, and caused chaos. This means that their targets are not only the security forces.

“Based on the facts, the acts of violence they have committed have been very brutal targeting civilians, attacking citizens and public facilities, which we think they’ve categorized in the armed conflict that they have been carrying out so far,” explained Chief of National Police Intelligence and Security Agency.

The acts of violence committed by the Armed Criminal Group are categorized as extraordinary crimes. Therefore, it takes tremendous efforts to quell the group.

“That is where the National Counterterrorism Agency, Anti-Terror Special Detachment 88, Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center is involved, which strengthen the quell because apart from the main actors who commit violence, there are also those who push the budget,” explained the former Papua Police Chief.

Chief of National Police Intelligence and Security Agency explained that the Armed Criminal Group in Papua has modern weapons. It is suspected that someone provided them with supplies or assistance so that the transaction could be traced, particularly in terms of the movement of the money. However, in several cases, the Armed Criminal Group also confiscated weapons belonging to the apparatus.

Previously, the Nemangkawi Operation Task Force arrested LW, a member of Terinus Enumbi in Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua, Sunday, May 23, 2021. LW was arrested because he had previously been part of the Police Search List (DPO).

LW is one of the arms suppliers of Terinus Enumbi group, the perpetrator of shooting toward the late Lieutenant Blegur in August 2018. He was also the perpetrator of confiscating a firearm belonging to a National Army soldier who was carrying groceries at that time, in February 2020.
