Bengkulu’s Regional Police Holds a Press Conference to Disclose the Smuggling of 15 Thousands of Fry Seeds

The Certain Criminal Act’s Sub-Directorate for Criminal Investigation Agency at the Regional Police of Bengkulu succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of lobster seeds / baby lobsters or what is also known as fry. This fry was transported from Kaur Regency from a suspect with the initials YH (39), a resident from Kaur Selatan District, Kaur Regency, Bengkulu Province.

Bengkulu Regional Police’s Head of PR, Pol. Grand Commissioner Sudarno accompanied by Head of Certain Criminal Act’s Sub-Directorate, Great Captain Awilzan in a press conference held by the Bengkulu Regional Police said that 15 thousand fries were successfully secured from the suspect’s hand with a value of IDR2.25 billion. The suspect was secured while crossing the western Sumatra highway, Kaur Regency at high speed towards Lampung. Which is from the public’s information that the car rode by the perpetrator was carrying two large boxes containing clear lobster seeds.

“Officers who get direct information carry out an investigation and give chase. The suspect had wanted to trick the officers by stopping at his friend’s residence to intend to move the items he was carrying. However, they didn’t have time, officers had succeeded in securing the suspect. The results of the search found on the spot is that the evidence came from the suspect’s car,” explained the Bengkulu Regional Police’s Head of PR.

In addition to secure 15 thousands of fries packed in 77 clear plastic bags from the suspect’s hand, the police also secured one unit of four-wheeled vehicle used by the perpetrator, two mobile phones and IDR 18 million in cash.

“From the interim examination, the suspect wanted to sell the seeds outside Bengkulu Province, but to be sure where the suspect will sell them, we are still investigating it,” explained Bengkulu Regional Police’s Head of PR.

For his actions, the suspect was accused of Article 88 in conjunction with Article 16 paragraph (1) of Law Number 45 of 2009 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 2004 concerning Fisheries. With a maximum imprisonment of 6 years and a maximum fine of IDR 1.5 billion.
