North Sumatra Police Discovers Illegal Covid-19 Vaccine Buying and Selling Case, Four Suspects Listed

inp.polri.go.id – Medan. The North Sumatra’s Regional Police have named 4 suspects in a case of alleged illegal buying and selling of the Covid-19 vaccine in Medan. The four were SW as the bribe giver, IW a doctor at Tanjung Gusta Prison and a KS doctor at the North Sumatra’s Health Office as a bribe recipient, and SH staff at the North Sumatra’s Health Office.

The Chief North Sumatra Regional Police, Pol. General Inspector RZ Panca Putra Simanjuntak, said that this disclosure stems from the information they received about the sale and purchase of the Covid-19 vaccine in the community. Where vaccination is performed with certain rewards to groups of people who should not have received it. Therefore the North Sumatra’s Regional Police conducted an integrated investigation, and the team found vaccine activities in a housing complex. The administration of the vaccine is coordinated by SW who is a property agent in collaboration with IW and KS. Previously, vaccine recipients were asked to pay IDR 250 thousands in cash.

“From the deepening and examination performed on the field, the SW coordinated with IW and KS. The Regional Police Chief should have said that the vaccine was given to public officials and prisoners at Tanjung Gusta Prison. But the vaccine is given to people who pays for it. Meanwhile received money during the 15 times the vaccination, according to Panca, it reached IDR 271,250,000. (USD 18000) Then the fee given to SW from the results of this activity were as much as IDR 32,550,000, ” added the North Sumatra’s Regional Police Chief.

“Therefore, SW as the bribe giver is charged under Article 5 paragraph 1 letters a and b and / or Article 13 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 31 of 1999. Then for IW and KS as recipients of bribes, they are subject to Article 12 letters a and b and / or Article 5 paragraph 2 and / or Article 11 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia number 20 of 2001, ” said the North Sumatra’s Regional Police Chief while giving a press statement at the North Sumatra’s Regional Police Headquarters KS Tubun Field, Friday (05/21/2021).

As a result of their actions, the suspects are now charged with Article 64 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code and Article 55 of the Criminal Code with the threat of a life sentence or a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 20 years and a fine of at least IDR 200 million and a maximum of IDR1 billion. Meanwhile, for the suspect, SH, played a role in giving vaccines to IW without going through the proper procedures. He will be subject to Articles 372 and 374 of the Criminal Code which, if possible, will be charged with the articles of corruption.
