Operation Nemangkawi was formed with the consideration of the disruption of security and order performed by the Papuan terrorist groups, thus disturbing people’s lives in several areas of Papua through armed terror acts.
In 2017, thousands of residents were taken hostage by a terrorist group in Banti Village, Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency.
Then 2018, the victim from PT. Istaka Karya. Dozens of workers were brutally murdered in Nduga Regency by the terrorist group Egianus Kogoya even though these workers are building a Trans Road Papua to open road access.
Based on Police records in 2019, terrorist groups committed shooting acts of terror in several districts in the highlands of Papua, in a total of 23 cases, with 20 dead victims, consisting of 10 civilians, eight members of the National Armed Forces, and two members of the Resort Police.
Then in 2020, the shooting of this terrorist group increased by 46 cases, with five people dying from civilians, two members of the National Armed Forces and two members of the Indonesian National Police.
In 2021, the terrorist group led by Lekagak Talenggeng will become increasingly brutal in Puncak Regency. Teachers, students, civilians were shot dead. Not only that, school buildings, teachers ‘houses, residents’ houses, and helicopters were also burned down.
Police Grand Commissioner Iqbal emphasized that the National Armed Forces and Indonesian National Police will always be solidly present in Papua to enforce the law against terrorist groups.
In addition, the presence of the National Armed Forces and Resort Police in Papua is to provide a sense of security to the community from terrorist group disturbances because Papua is part of the Republic of Indonesia.
“The National Armed Forces and Indonesian National Police remain solid in enforcing the law against terrorist groups in Papua. Moreover, the National Armed Forces and Indonesian National Police presence will always be the security of the people in Papua,” concluded Police Grand Commissioner Iqbal.
