Chief of Papua Regional Police: There will be a new pattern in the handling of the KKB

Chief of Papua Regional Police, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri, said that there would be a new pattern in dealing with armed criminal groups (KKB) in Papua.

This was discussed in a closed meeting with the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (The Chief of INP), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the Indonesian National Army (TNI) Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto in Timika, Friday (7/5/2021). However, Fakhiri did not explain in detail the new pattern.

“One of the parts that he conveyed, but of course, the handling pattern we are still waiting for instructions from INP Headquarters. Hopefully, when it comes out next week, we will make adjustments,” he said.

Fakhiri said that the meeting also discussed the process of enforcing the KKB. The legal action, he continued, would be carried out by a regional unit. “The pattern of action remains the same, but from the centre, it will be handed over to regional (units), namely the Regional Police and the Regional Military Command,” he explained.

The TNI Commander and The Chief of INP visited Timika, Mimika Regency, on Friday (7/5/2021). Apart from the Chief of Papua Regional Police, the meeting was also attended by Pangdam XVII / Cenderawasih and all task forces. Fakhiri conveyed that the arrival of the two four-star generals was to discuss the handling of the KKB.
