INP Ready to Organize Ketupat Operation 2021: Focus on Securing the Prohibition of Homecoming

The Indonesian National Police (INP) is ready to hold Operation Ketupat 2021 starting from May 6 to 17 to create a conducive, safe, and orderly atmosphere from Ramadan to Idul Fitri 1442 / Hijriah during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Head of the Public Information Division of the INP Police Public Relations Division, Senior Superintendent Ahmad Ramadhan, said that in this Ketupat Operation, INP, through the Traffic Police Corps, prepared 333 insulating points to anticipate the Eid homecoming.

“333 isolation points have been prepared and spread throughout the area from Lampung to Bali,” said Senior Superintendent Ramadhan, Monday (3/5/2021).

Ramadhan also said, before Operation Ketupat was implemented, INP had carried out Operation Safety 2021, which was held from April 12 to 25, 2021. This Safety Operation focused on disseminating the prohibition on going home to the community to break the chain of COVID -19 transmission in the country.

INP seeks to raise public awareness to postpone homecoming and to fill Eid together with family at home. This effort was made so that Indonesia would not be like India, which is now being hit by the ‘tsunami’ COVID-19.

The COVID-19 tsunami in India occurred after its predominantly Hindu community performed religious rituals along the Ganges River. “This safety operation has a target of breaking the chain of the spread of COVID-19. To prevent people from carrying out Eid al-Fitr 2021 homecoming, which aims to break the chain of spreading COVID-19,” said Ramadhan.

The personnel force involved in Operation Ketupat 2021 is around 166,734 people. This number is combined personnel of 834 INP Headquarters personnel, 93,336 Regional Police personnel, 13,332 TNI personnel, 10,449 Department of Transportation personnel, 10,772 civil service police unit personnel.

Operation Ketupat 2021 also involves personnel from the Health Office as 7,402 people, 6,330 Scout members, 2,379 community protection members, 1,210 Jasa Raharja officers, 2,301 National Search and Rescue Agency officers, and 18,389 other personnel.
