Papua – Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri, S.I.K., officially serves as the Chief of Papua Regional Police, replacing Commissioner General Pol. Drs. Paulus Waterpauw currently serves as the Head of Intelligence and Security Board.
Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri emphasized that several problems will be prioritized to be resolved. Such as the problem of armed criminal groups (KKB), which are still disrupting several districts located in Papua’s mountainous region.
The Chief of Papua Regional Police will use persuasive to repressive measures to confront the KKB.
“We will implement the welfare approach, and we will strictly enforce the law, we will not take a step back, of course with soft ways,” said Chief of Papua Regional Police Inspector General Mathius in Jayapura, Monday (8/3/21).
Inspector General Mathius hopes that the local government can be proactive in embracing KKB members so that they want to return to society and release their weapons.
Regarding the issue of misappropriation of the special autonomy fund (Otsus) amounting to Rp. 1.8 trillion, the Chief of Papua Regional Police will try to build communication with the Papua Provincial Government.
The former Vice Chief of Papua Regional Police emphasized that the handling of corruption cases will continue, but do not let the police action stop development wheels.
Besides, handling the Covid-19 pandemic will also be one of his work priorities. This is following the direction of the Chief of INP, General Pol. Drs. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, M.Sc.
“There is an order from the National Police Chief to support the government in handling Covid-19; this is, of course, a priority that we will carry out,” said the two-star general.
